The Retired Senior Volunteer Program is taking action to help retired seniors suffering from loneliness during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During these challenging times, seniors may find it difficult to find people to socialize with. With limited ability to leave their homes, see their family or their friends, it can be difficult emotionally for these seniors.
That is why the RSVP is going to start making weekly phone calls to lonely seniors through their Senior to Senior Connections program.
RSVP spokesperson Kitty Hamilton joined KVOE’s morning show to talk about the negative health effects associated with loneliness.
Hamilton says that these weekly phone calls could be life-saving for some seniors.
Training for RSVP’s Senior to Senior Connections program will take place Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m at the Bowyer Community Building in Emporia. Lunch will be provided if you preregister, but all walk-ins will be accepted.
