Trick-or-treating hasn’t been canceled in Emporia, but one of the larger-scale events for ghosts and goblins has been taken off the calendar.
Flinthills Mall has canceled Mall-o-Ween. The mall says the decision was made due to guidelines from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, notably when it comes to social distancing. KDHE is not recommending gatherings with non-household members, attractions like carnivals or haunted houses, door-to-door trick-or-treating and trunk-or-treating events.
The mall’s decision follows the David Traylor Zoo’s decision to cancel Boo in the Zoo. Emporia Main Street will have trick-or-treating in downtown Emporia from 11 am to 1 pm on Halloween.
