Newman Regional Health has announced a new program designed to help provide free mammogram screenings for patients that otherwise couldn’t afford them.
The Breast Care Screening Fund is for patients in Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Greenwood counties. Patients should first enroll for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s Early Detection Works program before applying for the hospital’s program. If patients are not eligible for the Early Detection Works program or have used all their available funds, the Breast Care Screening Fund may help.
The American Cancer Society says the five-year survival rate is 99 percent when breast cancer is detected early through monthly breast self-exams and regular clinic exams or mammograms and is localized.
If you want to donate, call the Emporia Community Foundation at 342-9304. If you need an application or more information about the fund, go online to www.newmanrh.org/breastcare or call 342-5222.
