Saturday was definitely a windy day across the KVOE listening area.
The Emporia Municipal Airport recorded a wind gust of 47 mph. Areawide, the peak gust was 50 mph at the Kansas Turnpike’s Matfield Green service area. Elsewhere, Eureka had a 44 mph gust and Coffey County Airport outside Burlington had a 41 mph gust.
Windy conditions triggered a very high fire danger, but that did not materialize in Lyon County. There were several small power outages that developed for Evergy and 4 Rivers customers. The biggest outage involved about 60 Evergy customers west of Cottonwood Falls and Strong City.
