The annual Boo in the Zoo event at the David Traylor Zoo will not be taking place this year.
Zoo Director Lisa Keith made the announcement Thursday morning during an update on zoo operations. Due to the number of individuals who attend the annual event, coupled with the ongoing pandemic and renovations at the zoo, Keith says the board felt it was the best decision overall.
Keith says the zoo is still planning to hold its traditional holiday activities including the annual Happy Holidaze event that sees the zoo lit up through the new year. Keith says that event will likely be virtual this year due to the pandemic.
In terms of renovations at the zoo as part of the Oasis Capital Campaign, Keith says work is moving along at a steady pace. She says construction on the zoo’s new entrance is going well with rock work set to begin in the area very soon.
Additionally, she says the new pond is now complete and just needs to be filled and a new memorial at the zoo is “beginning to take shape.” While so much work is ongoing the zoo is still welcoming visitors, however, Keith says there are some changes people need to be aware of.
Physical additions are not the only changes coming to the zoo as Keith also announced the Mission Madagascar exhibit will be getting some new inhabitants. Keith says they just recently added two Crowned Lemurs to the exhibit and have welcomed a new black-and-white ruffed lemur to the zoo.
Keith promises that the new additions will mean Mission Madagascar is sure to be “hopping” in the months to come.
