With all the talk of the mail ballot process due to coronavirus, it may get lost in the shuffle that many Lyon County residents will cast their advance ballots either at the Courthouse or next week’s offsite voter event at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building — if they don’t wait until Election Day and go to polling places instead.
Lyon County is ready with its COVID-19 election preparations, according to County Clerk Tammy Vopat.
In-office advance voting at the Lyon County Courthouse begins at 8 am Monday and continues during normal business hours weekdays until noon Nov. 2. Starting Monday, Lyon County voters will also have almost a full week to use the offsite voter location at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building. Hours are 9 am-4 pm Oct. 19-20, 9 am-7 pm Oct. 21, 9 am-4 pm Oct. 22-23 and 8 am-noon Oct. 24.
For those of you that have formally requested a mail ballot and those requests have been processed, the ballots will be sent to you Wednesday. Roughly 3,000 requests have already been filed. The deadline to request a ballot is Oct. 27. Mail ballots must be postmarked and sent by Nov. 3 and received by Nov. 6 to count in the election.
