The combination of warmth and wind — temperatures in the 80s and wind gusts in the 30 mph range — led to some small grass fires in Lyon County on Sunday.
A trio of small spot fires developed on Kansas Highway 99 near Road 220 as the result of a broken vehicle chain. Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says the driver noticed the problem, pulled over and fixed the chain. No additional issues were noted.
Also, a controlled burn from Saturday led to a small fire in the 1100 block of Santa Fe in Olpe after embers got into some harvested bean stubble.
