Good news for parents of schoolchildren.
The US Department of Agriculture says it is extending its earlier decision to make school meals free until the end of the calendar year. That now extends to the end of the school year and involves all students, not just those who qualify for free or reduced meals.
Besides allowing for meals to continue through June, this action also lets meals be served in nontraditional meal settings and times. It also lets parents pick up meals for children if needed.
Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says this is part of the federal commitment to making sure schoolchildren have access to nutritious food as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
