Lyon County deputies say an Americus teenager was fortunate to escape injury after his camper caught fire shortly before 2 pm Wednesday.
Deputy Danny Broyles says the fire at 2312 Road F-5 destroyed John Weatherhead’s camper, which also doubled as a remote classroom. Weatherhead was taking classes when he noticed smoke coming from a cabinet. He then checked outside and found fire near the electrical outlet.
Weatherhead got away from the camper and called 911.
Nobody was hurt. An electrical issue, possibly a shorted circuit, is the apparent cause.
