Tuesday was a great day to “roll down your window and roll up your sleeve.”
That was the thought of Newman Regional Health administrators as they held their drive-through flu shot clinic at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building. Director of Business Development McKenzie Cinelli tells KVOE News a drive-through event has a wide-ranging appeal.
Pharmacy Director Ashley Edwards says a flu vaccination will offer peace of mind, especially with coronavirus and other respiratory illnesses floating around.
Helping the effort were about 30 students from the Emporia State nursing department. professor Dr. Kari Hess says the clinic provided several lessons for the students.
Flu season will continue through March and possibly into April. Health officials are urging vaccinations this year because of the concerns they have about flu and COVID-19 overloading medical providers and cutting down on hospital bed space. Both have common symptoms, including fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, headache, muscle pain and fatigue. COVID symptoms typically develop one to three days later than flu and COVID patients often lose their sense of taste or smell.
If you missed Tuesday’s drive-through clinic from Newman Regional Health or last week’s option offered by Flint Hills Community Health Center, call your provider or pharmacist for more information about available flu shots.
