Golf lovers from near and far were scrambling around the Emporia Country Club to benefit local businesses Saturday.
The inaugural Mulligan for Mainstreet Golf Tournament played host to over 50 golfers comprising 28 teams for the nine-hole scramble tournament. All proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit Emporia Main Street and their ever-growing list of services to assist local businesses through the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and beyond according to Main Street Director Casey Woods.
While the proceeds will provide long term future benefits, Woods says the tournament itself also brought a long list of immediate impacts to the Emporia community.
With many of Main Streets’ long-standing annual activities being canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Woods says it is great to know they can still do something to have an impact on the local community.
Based on initial feedback and the positive turnout Saturday, Woods says it is likely the tournament will continue on in the future.
On top of benefiting a great cause, participants also had the opportunity to win an assortment of prizes at each hole including products from local businesses and gift certificates from Main Street. Totals from the tournament are expected to be announced by Monday at the earliest.
