Reversing Thursday’s minor increase in active cases, Friday’s statistics from Lyon County Public Health saw recoveries outnumber new activity.
Public Health announced four new cases and seven recoveries. While the overall caseload is now nearing 1,100, the active caseload went back from 57 Thursday to Wednesday’s total of 54.
The number of deaths remained steady at 35. The number of deaths awaiting final cause from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment stayed at three.
The colleges and universities cluster category remained the only active category Friday. One cluster is involved with 62 total and three active cases.
Emporia’s education institutions also made COVID-19 reports Friday:
*Emporia State added three new cases to move to 57 total since last week. Four cases are active. There are currently no students in on-campus isolation or quarantine. ESU information says the on-campus cluster has been deactivated, although Public Health is still listing it.
*Flint Hills Technical College is announcing three cases and nine people associated with the college in quarantine. The college is not confirming its total caseload.
*USD 253 Emporia announced three new cases, with two in staff — one at the prekindergarten to elementary level and one for secondary grades — and one in a middle school or high school student. Eleven staffers are in new quarantine this week. Nearly 30 students and staff have developed COVID-19 since March.
Elsewhere in the KVOE listening area:
*Greenwood County reported its 50th overall case with one new patient Friday. The new case is the county’s only active case.
*Osage County had two new cases Thursday to reach 110 overall cases. Eighteen are active, up two from Wednesday.
