Financial adjustments notwithstanding due to COVID-19, Kansas closed the fiscal 2021 first quarter doing better than expected — again.
Governor Laura Kelly says quarterly receipts were $2.3 billion, over $108 million ahead of projections. The amount was also almost 30 percent above the fiscal 2020 first quarter last year. September collections by themselves were almost $728 million, up $73 million over estimates and 2 percent from last September.
Kelly says the increase is in part because of changes for income tax filing deadlines and increased revenue due to more collections of compensating use taxes. Individual and corporate income tax collections outperformed expectations, as did compensating use tax collections, although retail sales tax collections were short of predictions.
