Lyon County’s Community Corrections Department is receiving assistance in its efforts to combat substance abuse in the local community.
Friday, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced Community Corrections has been awarded a grant that will support its resources offered to individuals suffering from substance abuse issues. The more than $43,000 grant will support the agency’s Drug Court and Home Court programs which provide treatment and resources for said individuals.
In addition, the grant will also aid Community Corrections overcoming issues such as transportation and language barriers.
In a news release, Schmidt stated, “combatting substance abuse remains a significant issue in our communities.” Schmidt added his office is proud to offer support to agencies such as Community Corrections dedicated to addressing that issue.
The grant is a part of the Federal Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program and was issued by the Kansas Criminal Justice Coordinating Council of which Schmidt serves as the chair.
