The final day of September will also mark the final day Laurie Dunn will serve as Sheriff for Osage County.
Friday, Dunn announced she will officially retire at the end of the month. Dunn, born and raised in Osage County, graduated from Burlingame High School in 1981 before beginning a near four-decade career in law enforcement as a dispatcher for the Sheriff’s Office that summer. Dunn’s career has seen her serve in multiple positions including as a jail staffer, jail sergeant and criminal investigator before being elected as Sheriff in 2004.
Dunn’s final day is Wednesday.
Undersheriff Jeff Johnson will serve as the interim Sheriff until a permanent replacement is found. Dunn tells KVOE News a name has been submitted to the Governor’s office to fill that role, however, further details are currently pending.
In a news release sent to KVOE Friday, Dunn thanked all of her colleagues and coworkers for their years of kindness and support during her time as Sheriff. She concluded her comments stating “I wish you all the best, please stay safe and stay healthy.”
