Timmerman Elementary is among six schools in Kansas to be honored as a US Department of Education National Blue Ribbon School.
Established in 1982, the Blue Ribbon School program recognizes schools that have made major progress in closing achievement gaps, focusing on schools that have at least 40 percent of their student body from so-called disadvantaged backgrounds and have generated sizeable improvements in student performance in reading and math. Schools with students achieving in the top 10 percent in reading and math, based on state assessments, are also recognized and encouraged to apply by Kansas Education Commissioner Randy Watson.
Principal Allyson Lyman says there are a lot of people to thank for the honor.
Timmerman was listed as an Exemplary High Performing School.
Timmerman and the other honorees will be formally recognized with a virtual ceremony Nov. 12-13.
