Not surprisingly, the US Drought Monitor says most of the KVOE listening area is now officially drier than normal.
Abnormally dry conditions cover most of Lyon County, as well as all of Coffey County, east and south Greenwood County and southern Osage County. A small section of eastern Morris County is also included.
This is a notable expansion of the abnormally dry area from a week ago, when south Coffey and southeast Greenwood counties were involved.
All told, we have received 1.9 inches of rainfall since Sept. 1. However, no rain has been recorded at the KVOE studios since we picked up 0.85 inches of rain Sept. 11. Another 0.40 inches fell Sept. 10.
