Administrators of Symphony in the Flint Hills are “going back to the basics” for the event coming up June 12.
Program Manager Sandy Carlson and Donor Relations Manager Kelly Tastove joined KVOE’s Morning Show on Tuesday to discuss the current plans for next year’s event and how cancellations last year and this year affected what’s to come in 2021. Tastove says the concert and some of the other key aspects of past events will take place.
Currently, there’s no plan to have a special guest for next year’s concert. Bela Fleck was the scheduled feature performer this year. Regardless of the activity list, Carlson says the event’s overall mission will continue.
Cancellations for the past two events — earlier this year for coronavirus, last year for severe weather — have caused organizers to adjust the financial approach in addition to the event lineup. The organization refunded this year’s tickets after not having that capability last year. This year, tickets for a weather-related cancellation — if it’s needed — could be refunded.
The event this year will be held outside Council Grove, which is fitting because this is the bicentennial year for the Santa Fe Trail that goes through the town.
Tickets could be available before the end of the year. Tickets will be $95 for general admission plus taxes and fees. Tickets for kids up to age 12 will be $50.
