Sacred Heart Elementary has had a great start to their school year with little to no complications arising.
That’s according to Principal Darby O’Neill, who joined KVOE’s Morning Show recently to talk about how both students and teachers must be flexible during these everchanging times.
Like area public schools, Sacred Heart has its students wearing masks and getting their temperatures checked daily. There has also been a greater emphasis on outdoor time as part of the school’s social distancing plan. Students in kindergarten through second grade start in the main building for masks and temperature checks, while students in grades 3-5 go into the parish hall. Students then stay with their class all day for learning and lunch, and the school has done its best to stagger outdoor recess times.
O’Neill says students have done a great job at following all the new guidelines that have been put in place.
Students had the option of in-class or remote learning, and O’Neill says all students decided to come to the school.
Although no problems have been present thus far, O’Neill says, “We have to remain vigilant,” saying school personnel understand the need for changes could develop from one day to the next.
