Barring weather or a pandemic, the Symphony in the Flint Hills will take place next summer.
Event organizers have announced North Lakeview Pasture outside Council Grove will be the host location for the concert and related activities June 12. The Kansas City Symphony will perform. Word is pending on whether noted musician Bela Fleck, the scheduled special guest for this year’s show, will take that role next year after the 2020 concert was canceled due to coronavirus.
This will be the 16th year for the event, which is also being held in conjunction with the Santa Fe Trail’s bicentennial celebration.
If all works out, this will be the first Symphony in the Flint Hills event in three years. Before this year’s cancellation, the event was canceled last year due to the impacts of severe weather. Besides the concert, the event also includes art galleries, prairie walks, covered wagon rides, Flint Hills information and other activities. Between 5,000 and 7,000 people attend or help with the festivities each year.
Ticket information will be announced later. More information is online at www.symphonyintheflinthills.org.
