Students and staff of USD 244 Burlington are doing everything they can to keep the school year as “normal as possible.”
That’s according to USD 244 Superintendent Craig Marshall KVOE’s latest guest as part of a series of updates with area superintendents. Marshall says staff has adjusted well to the recent string of COVID-19 related adjustments and students are doing a great job of adhering to certain practices and mandates, including mask usage.
Marshall says the entire district appears dedicated to keeping classes in person for as long as they can. The district, like many others, offered both in-person and online learning options for their students.
Marshall says at this time only 15 students have opted for online learning, similar to other neighboring districts. Marshall explains the district has two different virtual platforms they are using for the elementary and secondary education levels.
Marshall says the district’s fall athletics schedule is in full swing with only one postponement to report so far.
According to Marshall, the district has implemented similar procedures to other school districts throughout the state.
He says temperature checks are being conducted before students step on busses or enter buildings. Mask usage, social distancing and frequent sanitation is also in place to help reduce any potential for COVID-19 spread within the district.
Marshall says thankfully, the county’s COVID-19 numbers have remained stable and the district has been working closely with their local health department to ensure they have every possible safeguard in place to keep students inside classrooms throughout the year.
KVOE will continue its series of updates with area superintendents throughout the remainder of the academic year.
