How big is it to be honored by Kansas Education Commissioner with the Kansans Can Commissioner’s Award?
USD 251 North Lyon County Superintendent Bob Blair says it’s really big.
The four awards Blair mentioned include the Commissioner’s Award, but they also include bronze awards for postsecondary effectiveness and graduation rates and a copper award reflecting academic preparation for postsecondary success. Blair tells KVOE News the awards, presented by Education Commissioner Randy Watson during the Board of Education’s meeting this week, are the direct result of a longstanding approach to education.
In other business, the board approved a land purchase across from North Lyon County Elementary and Junior High in Americus. The building is already being used for storage and the land will help alleviate some parking issues, but Blair says the property could also be where the district puts a new preschool. Plans on that front will be determined later.
