No surprise here — Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is calling on the State Finance Council to extend the state’s current disaster declaration.
Among other things, Kelly says the declaration lets the Kansas Department of Health and Environment offer community-based testing. It also lets the Division of Emergency Management partner with the National Guard to help food bank operations and personal protective equipment deliveries to hospitals and health centers.
Compromise legislation approved by lawmakers and the governor back in June extended the declaration to this upcoming Tuesday, but Kelly needs the Finance Council OK to extend the declaration through Sept. 30 and also to spend federal COVID-19 relief funds.
