The Emporia High gymnastics team opened their season with a duel at Newton Tuesday. Newton won the duel.
Individually for Emporia High- Hadleigh Mertens finished in 5th place all-around, 4th on the beam and vault, 7th on the uneven bars and floor exercise.
Hattie Walker finished in 6th place all around, 2nd on the uneven bars, 6th on the vault and floor and 8th on the balance beam.
Journey Walburn finished in 7th place all-around and 2nd on the floor exercise, 6th on the bars, 7th on the vault and 9th on the floor.
Candance Vincent finished in 2nd place on the vault, 3rd on the balance beam and 9th on the bars.
Jacey Stutler finished 8th on the floor and bars and 9th on the vault.
Sara Chapman placed 8th on the vault and 10th on the bars.
Laney Cooper placed 7th on the beam and 10th on the floor.
The gymnastics team is scheduled to compete in a meet at Lawrence Free State Saturday.
