Kansas residents out of work due to coronavirus are now eligible for federal unemployment benefits, although the amount is less than what they received earlier.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency says Kansas has been approved for a grant under the -so-called Lost Wages Assistance program. This will give unemployed residents $300 per week on of their regular jobless benefits.
The payout is half of what unemployed residents received early in the pandemic and stems from an executive order issued by President Donald Trump last month.
Kansas joins over 40 other states who have successfully applied for this line of funding. Kansas still has to create and implement a new system for distributing the money.
