A USD 253 Emporia Public Schools staff member has tested positive for COVID-19.
The district announced the positive case Friday afternoon and in accordance with district protocols have identified all staff, parents and students who may have come in contact with the individual. Superintendent Kevin Case says when a positive case is identified the district’s first concern is ensuring all potential contacts are notified quickly and efficiently.
When asked if he thinks the positive case might affect the current trajectory of the school year, Case stated:
The positive case announcement comes asUSD 253 is nearing completion on a COVID-19 dashboard to track and report positive cases throughout the district. Case says they are roughly 90 percent of the way towards having a dashboard up and running.
Once it’s complete, the dashboard will break down cases on a Pre-K through elementary, middle and high school and districtwide basis. Case says the district is dedicated to finding a balance between reporting accurate up-to-date information while also protecting the personal privacy of potential COVID patients.
At this time the district is not releasing any additional information on the positive case.
