Emporia is well-known in the worldwide cycling community — and with good reason. Or, as maybe we should say, reasons.
The latest reason is a new bike wheel unveiled Thursday by HED Cycling. It’s called “Emporia,” and Dirty Kanza Event Director LeLan Dains is “beyond thrilled” by the new product.
Dains says the Emporia has a wider-than-normal rim, which allows for better handling and greater comfort on gravel than the traditional road-specific rims.
The naming of the Emporia is the latest in HED Cycling’s tradition of naming certain bike products for famous cycling areas across the globe — and it’s a nod to Emporia for its impact on cycling through the Dirty Kanza. Dains also believes more naming opportunities revolving around Emporia may be coming in the future, and this comes as more people are turning to cycling for exercise and a fun, socially-distanced activity as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
