A Council Grove man was hospitalized following an accident north of Americus Tuesday morning.
Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputies, Americus First Responders and Emporia Fire responded to the 2500 block of Road F, one mile north of Americus, shortly after 7:40 am. Deputy Justin Carr says 20-year-old Mitchell Meierhoff was northbound on Road F when he fell asleep.
Meierhoff’s vehicle, a 2001 Chevy Blazer, left the road and entered the east ditch and struck a culvert and then a tree trunk. Meierhoff was taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected minor injuries.
He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.
