Lyon County deputies say an Emporia woman was hurt in Sunday morning’s crash outside a local church.
Deputy Zach Shafer says 27-year-old Liliana Elias-Cartagena of Emporia was injured in the crash and later went to Newman Regional Health for treatment. Elias-Cartagena was westbound on Road 190 and had stopped briefly at the intersection of Road G outside Victory Fellowship Church. Elias-Cartagena pulled out past the stop sign and apparently did not see a northbound SUV driven by 71-year-old Fred Dewinkler of Olpe.
Elias-Cartagena suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Dewinkler was not listed as hurt. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
11:15 am Sunday: Wreck outside local church sends one person to Newman Regional Health
A two-vehicle crash happened outside an Emporia church shortly after weekly worship began Sunday and resulted in one person going to Newman Regional Health for treatment.
The crash at Roads 190 and G, or just outside Victory Fellowship Church, happened shortly after 10 am and involved a car and SUV. Lyon County Deputy Zach Shafer tells KVOE News the car was westbound on Road 190 while the SUV was northbound on G. The car’s driver pulled out from the stop sign and didn’t see the SUV coming. The SUV then broadsided the car.
Authorities have not yet named the people involved in the wreck or given other details about the crash. We’ll have an update when those details are announced on KVOE and KVOE.com.
