A goal with 7.5 seconds to play lifted the Emporia High boys soccer team to a season opening 3-2 win over St. Marys Academy Friday evening.
Hector Hernandez scored the winning goal with 7.5 seconds to play.
Hernandez tied the match at 2 with a goal with 18:58 to play in the match.
St. Marys scored the first goal with 23:39 to play in the first half.
Emporia High tied the match with 16:15 to play in the half on a goal by Kaden Nguyen. St. Marys retook the lead with 4:54 to play in 1st half.
Spartan Coach Victor Ibarra was pleased with his teams resiliency.
The Spartans scheduled to host Newton on September 10th.
