Starting next year, hunters can use artificial light and thermal imaging equipment if they plan to hunt coyotes at night.
Interested hunters will need to buy a Night Vision Equipment Permit at $2.50 to use artificial light, scopes and other equipment that enhance visible light as well as thermal-imaging scopes or other thermal equipment.
The policy has several restrictions in addition to the permit:
*Activity will be permitted from New Year’s Day to March 31
*Use of stated equipment will be permitted for hunting coyotes only.
*Use of a vehicle while hunting with stated equipment is prohibited
*Use of stated equipment will not be allowed on department lands and waters
The recent regulation change followed a 5-2 vote by the Kansas Wildlife, Parks and Tourism Commission.
