A reported brush fire in southeast Emporia early Wednesday turned out to be a controlled burn.
Emporia Fire Capt. Jesse Taylor says the fire in the 2000 block of East Logan around 6:45 am followed another controlled burn in that area several days ago. The difference was the original controlled burn was reported to the Lyon County Emergency Communications Center as directed by county policy, while the one for Wednesday was not.
Taylor says there was some misunderstanding about county policy, so no citation was issued. No injuries were reported with the burn pile, which was reported near a tree line.
