Emporia State University has rolled out a coronavirus tracking dashboard.
The dashboard lists the number of students tested at ESU’s Student Wellness Center and the number of positive results — in this case, 10 students tested and three confirmed positives. It also lists the number of students in on-campus isolation (1) for developing the virus and the number in on-campus quarantine housing (5) for being in close contact with confirmed COVID-19 patients.
The dashboard also lists the results of Emporia State’s mass testing initiative before the fall semester began Monday. ESU tested 1,517 students, faculty and staff through a partnership with Clinical Reference Laboratory of Lenexa and funding through the federal CARES Act. Fourteen tests came back positive for a positivity test rate of 0.92 percent.
Director of Media Relations Gwen Larson says the dashboard will be updated weekly on Fridays. Students feeling symptoms should call the Student Wellness Center at 341-5222 before visiting the center for testing. Faculty and staff, meanwhile, should call their doctors.
Flint Hills Technical College is not planning to create a dashboard because the college does not have a student health department on campus. Vice President of Student Services Lisa Kirmer says FHTC is working closely with Lyon County Public Health for coronavirus health concerns.
