Two people were hurt after a wreck in central Coffey County on Thursday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says a car driven by 21-year-old Nathaniel Tompkins of Burlington was northbound on US Highway 75 north of New Strawn, while a pickup driven by 36-year-old Clint Wren of Melissa, Texas, was southbound. Troopers say Tompkins tried to pass a semi but swerved onto the southbound shoulder and lost control from there, sliding back onto the highway and hitting Wren’s pickup head-on.
Tompkins was taken to Coffey County Hospital in Burlington with suspected serious injuries. Wren suffered suspected minor injuries and was not transported.
Both drivers were the only ones in their respective vehicles and both were wearing seatbelts when the crash happened.
