USD 253 nurses and educators are continuing to game-plan for what is already shaping up to be one of the most unique academic years in recent memory.
During Tuesday’s Emporia Showcase district nurses and remote educators joined the program to discuss their ongoing preparation ahead of Sept. 2. From a health standpoint, there are numerous preventive measures in place to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread including daily screenings for all staff and students.
Riverside Elementary School nurse Jennifer Arndt details these screening procedures.
As previously mentioned, mask usage will be mandatory for all students, staff and vendors that enter district facilities. Emporia High School nurse Jamie Nelson says they are expecting some challenges to accompany this policy.
With remote learning also returning for the upcoming year, several district teachers are in the process of shifting their learning plans to a remote format. This includes Riverside remote 1st-grade teacher Megan Powers.
According to Powers, the online component will operate on the same schedule as in-person classes. Students will receive instruction in every traditional subject and will still have regular breaks worked into the schedule to reduce the number of time students are in front of a screen each day.
Elementary students were offered the option between remote or in-person learning for the upcoming year, however, an exact percentage for how many families took advantage of the remote option is not currently available. USD 253 Superintendent Kevin Case says any parents who may have questions or concerns with their chosen learning platform should contact their student’s building administrator.
