GenEmporia is asking area residents to donate certain items benefiting SOS and its clients.
Spokesperson Kathryn Martin says it makes sense to help SOS at a time when a lot of families are in crisis mode.
GenEmporia is an emerging service group involving young professionals locally. Martin says group members wanted to give back to the community with a project that’s safe for everybody to participate.
Residents are encouraged to donate cleaning products, feminine hygiene products, hairbrushes and over-the-counter medications at either ESB Financial branch, Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau, Emporia Fitness, Emporia Main Street, Express Employment Professionals, Jack’s Lawn and Pool, Lyon County History Center, Lyon Gymnastics and Williams Automotive. The business that collects the most donations and individuals who donate have chances to win prizes.
The drive is now active through Aug. 31.
