A Council Grove woman was killed earlier this week in a UTV crash near Herington.
Police Chief Brian Hornaday says 71-year-old Connie Thomas died Tuesday afternoon after she was ejected from the UTV as it rolled at the Herington Sale Barn near US Highway 77 and Logan Street. Hornaday says 84-year-old Allen Thomas of Council Grove was driving through tall grass when he hit a drainage culvert that couldn’t be seen due to the grass. Connie Thomas was thrown from the UTV and partially pinned, while Allen Thomas was trapped.
Allen Thomas was taken to Herington Municipal Hospital with suspected minor injuries. Connie Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither were wearing seatbelts.
