The Kansas City Chiefs have finalized a four-year extension for Travis Kelce that will tie the five-time Pro Bowler to the team through 2025, according to CBS Sports.
Kelsey says there are a number of reasons he signed the extension.
His new contract will pay him over $57 million dollars, for an annual average of over $14 million dollars. It includes a reported $28 million in guarantees.
Friday was the first day the Chiefs practiced in pads.
Coach Andy Reid says he has been proud of the effort.
The team will have a total of 14 such practices before the season begins on Thursday, September 10 against the Houston Texans.
Defensive end Frank Clark, tight end Deon Yelder, defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi — along with defensive linemen Devaroe Lawrence and Demone Harris — were not in pads Friday.
After the practice, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said that Clark has a stomach virus; Reid was careful to say that he is not infected with COVID. Reid said both Harris and Lawrence were excused for personal reasons — and that Yelder has a “slight” groin strain.
Offensive lineman Martinas Rankin, safety Juan Thornhill and cornerback BoPete Keyes — all still currently listed a physically-unable-to-perform — also sat out the session, but worked with trainers on the sidelines.
