Flint Hills Community Health Center’s quarterly report and comments on the recent Lyon County Planning and Appeals Board meeting highlighted the Lyon County Commission’s weekly action session Thursday morning.
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, FHCHC staff have been performing multiple roles on top of their typical routines in response to the pandemic. FHCHC CEO Renee Hively tells KVOE News it is becoming evident that staff are beginning to be stretched a bit thin carrying additional tasks on top of their normal day-to-day responsibilities.
Because of this, Hively says the health center is in the process of bringing in additional staff to help carry the burden.
FHCHC CFO Stephanie Ringgold tells KVOE News the center is working closely with the county to devise a financial strategy that will serve both entities effectively. Ringgold also noted that the health center managed to shift funds from their annual county allocation to help cover the cost of staff that were reallocated to assist with the COVID response.
In other business, commissioners entertained the normal public comment period of their session. The majority of comments focused on Wednesday’s Lyon County Planning and Appeals Board meeting.
The board decided not to recommend the current draft of the county’s zoning regulations during the meeting by a vote of 4-2.
County Commission Chair Rollie Martin tells KVOE News the commission will take up the zoning matter during its Aug. 26 meeting. Martin says his preference is to keep the process moving forward as much as possible.
Martin says historically the commission has rarely if ever, approved a document such as this without the planning board’s recommendation. He says the commission plans to spend the next two weeks gathering information and perspective to help render the best decision possible.
In other business Thursday the commission also discussed the county’s KCAMP insurance pool. The Lyon County Commission will reconvene for its weekly action session next Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
