Move-in is underway at Emporia State University.
New students can move in through Friday, while continuing students can use the upcoming weekend to get settled in. Director of Residential Life Cass Coughlin says it’s a heady time for students and family members alike.
What won’t be the same is the actual move-in procedure. The hundreds of Hornet Helpers, a staple of the process for years, won’t be on hand — meaning students will have to do their own loading and unloading. ESU is continuing the “How To ESU” program, changing it to add more information on sanitizing and social distancing methods, and it will still have residential assistants on different floors.
Work on renovating Abigail Morse Hall continues and will push past the start of the fall semester Monday. Coughlin says a mix of spotty heavy rainfall and subcontractor staffing spurts based on COVID-19. The plan now is to have students begin occupying Abigail Morse on Aug. 29-30 once the Certificate of Occupancy is in hand. Students originally planning to use Abigail Morse will occupy Singular Hall instead to start the semester.
