The Emporia Fire Department managed to quickly subdue a vehicle fire in north Emporia Tuesday afternoon.
Crews were called to 1709 West Wilman Court shortly after noon for a vehicle fire. According to Emporia Fire Batallion Chief Tony Fuller, the fire developed in a 1984 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck.
The owner of the truck noticed the fire as he was eating lunch and a neighbor was able to use a hose to contain the fire as they awaited the arrival of firefighters. Crews had the fire extinguished in roughly five minutes.
According to Fuller the cause of the fire was due to a mechanical failure inside the engine compartment. No injuries were reported.
