The United Way of the Flint Hills is now less than two weeks away from starting its annual fundraising campaign.
Executive Director Mickey Edwards has announced BJ and Kristy Bayer will serve as this campaign’s drive co-chairs:
*Kristy Bayer is Emporia State University’s Deputy Director of Athletics managing internal and external operations. She was recently named the Emporia Main Street Advocate of the year and is also active with the Emporia Rotary Club and SOS. She also coaches youth soccer through the Emporia Recreation Commission.
*BJ Bayer is the plant manager at Wolf Creek outside Burlington. He also serves on the United Way board, supports Habitat for Humanity and serves SOS and ESU through work on different committees. He coaches youth football through the Rec Commission.
The 2019-2020 campaign had its celebration May 28, announcing a fundraising total of almost $548,000 to benefit over 20 community partners and well over 10,000 residents in Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris, Osage, Wabaunsee and Woodson counties.
The kickoff for the 2020-21 campaign is Aug. 20. We’ll discuss the campaign in more detail on KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 segment at 8:20 am Monday.
