A woman allegedly involved in a lengthy law enforcement pursuit over 18 months ago will return to court next month.
Less than a month ago, 30-year-old Chelsea Brooks pled no contest to a single count of assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon, in this case, a vehicle, related to the December 2018 chase which began in Emporia and eventually ended around 10 miles south of Burlingame. She was subsequently found guilty of the charge by Judge Jeffry Larson.
Three weeks later, Brooks sought to withdraw that plea citing ineffective legal counsel. During a motions hearing Tuesday in Lyon County District Court, Judge Jeffrey Larson replaced Ty Wheeler with Rand Simmons and declined to take further action on the motion at this time.
Brooks is next scheduled to appear at 9 am Sept. 3 at which time approval or denial of her motion may be handed down.
