Less than a month ago, Chelsea Brooks pleaded no contest to charges related to a chase from Emporia to western Osage County in late 2018. Brooks is now seeking to withdraw that plea.
Brooks will appear at 2 pm Tuesday in Lyon County District Court to formally offer a motion to withdraw, citing ineffective legal counsel.
Brooks, age 30, had pleaded no contest July 13 to assault on a law enforcement officer after a chase in December 2018. According to the court affidavit, Brooks narrowly missed several law enforcement vehicles with her vehicle before leading a chase at speeds approaching 100 mph.
The plea as originally announced was set to dismiss a second aggravated assault count as well as single counts of flee and elude, possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia and driving while suspended or revoked.
