Tyson Fresh Meats is planning to cease operations of its cold storage facility come this fall.
A prepared statement from Tyson sent to KVOE reads as follows: “After much consideration, and as part of ongoing efforts to increase efficiency in our business, we plan to decommission the freezer at our Emporia plant in mid to late September.”
The release goes on to state the decommissioning will have no effect on Tyson’s “value-added operations” as they will continue to operate as normal.
At this time, there are 15 employees working at the freezer. All of those employees have been given the opportunity to transfer to different positions within the value-added plant according to the company’s statement.
KVOE has reached out to Tyson for further comment and information on the facility’s decommissioning.
