Another hot, sticky day areawide could lead to a stormy night and the risk of flooding west of Emporia.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties from 1-7 pm. Air temperatures may climb to the mid-90s with heat index readings as high as 105.
Storms should move in after sunset. Heavy rainfall is possible, and Chase and Morris counties are in separate flash flood watches from 7 pm Sunday to 7 am Monday. The Weather Service anticipates 1-2 inches of rainfall with local totals as high as 4 inches.
With the heat that’s expected, be sure to wear light, loose-fitting clothes, stay out of the sun as much as possible and drink lots of water. With the heavy rainfall, especially with it setting up after sunset, be careful not to drive through water over roads.
