The Emporia Recreation Commission is still accepting registration for the 2020 Corporate Challenge this year.
Aaron Hammond of the ERC, a recent guest of KVOE’s Newsmaker Two segment Thursday, says it is not 100 percent clear at this time if the challenge will be taking place. However, they are still planning to offer the event if corporations or teams are interested despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hammond says with many individuals being cooped up at home for a period of time due to the pandemic the ERC felt the challenge was an event they needed to offer to the local community.
Hammond says if the challenge does take place this year there will be several changes from years past due to the pandemic. team sizes will be reduced from 15 to six members and the challenge will take place over the course of one week rather than two as in previous years.
Additionally, Hammond says the ERC has chosen to cancel all indoor events and will only hold activities outdoors in order to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread. The main reason for soley holding events outdoors according to Hammond is due to the average number of individuals involved in the event.
Hammond says in normal years, the event normally has around 30 teams participating in Corporate Challenge.
If you would like to participate in the 2020 Corporate Challenge you can register by calling the Lee Beran Recreation Center at 620-340-6300 or email Hammond at Ahammond@Emporiarec.org.
