Vandals have damaged the USD 421 Lyndon football field to the point where district administrators don’t know whether the field will have to be replaced.
Vandals used a truck to drive up and down the field earlier this week, causing eight-inch ruts across the field and narrowly missing several sprinkler heads. Superintendent Brad Marcotte says this is especially disappointing for a number of reasons.
Word on a formal investigation by the Osage County Sheriff’s Office is pending.
Damage estimates are pending. Marcotte says inspections are coming from the maintenance vendor and Kansas Leveling to see if the field can be salvaged and, if so, how much repairs will cost.
A $500 reward has been offered by a private citizen. The number to call for more information on the reward is 785-409-5316.
