Emporia Main Street has canceled The Taste.
Main Street originally postponed the event in March, pushing the event to September. Director Casey Woods says Main Street has spent the past few months researching how its events can move forward safely and effectively, given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Woods says spacing out vendors would cut attendance to the point where it wasn’t worth it to hold the event — and Woods says “if it couldn’t be The Taste, we didn’t want to hold it.” He’s disappointed the decision had to be made, especially given the way it features different food and beverage businesses across Kansas. This year would have the first time The Taste was featuring a local brewery, distillery and winery with Radius Brewing and Twin Rivers Winery already established and Trolley House Distillery set to make its debut.
Main Street has already turned its annual meeting July 30 into a virtual event to be held on its Facebook page. The Great American Market in September is currently set to take place with extra social distancing as part of the event.
People wanting a refund can get one, whether they paid by cash, check or credit card. People can also defer their attendance to next year’s event.
