The parking lot of Flint Hills Mall was full once again Sunday for the mall’s official reopening celebration.
While the mall doors were not exactly locked over the past few months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mall Manager Clarence Frye says with the discouragement of certain activities and several stores choosing to close their doors due to health concerns, traffic had been down considerably. However, after Governor Laura Kelly began her reopening plan back in May, stores have been slowly, yet steadily reopening to the public.
Fry says it is great to see people inside the mall once again, and at this time, the only business they’re still waiting to reopen is the movie theatre.
Frye says in preparation of the reopening, the mall has drastically stepped up its mitigation practices to combat COVID-19. This includes strongly encouraging wearing masks, social distancing and cleaning personnel stepping up its disinfectant procedures.
Fry adds, many of the mall stores also have their own cleaning procedures within their businesses adding an extra layer of sanitation for the safety of all customers.
Sunday’s celebration featured free snow cones, a dunk tank, games and activities for children and music from local band the Box Turtles along with several sales from mall businesses.
